Reflection Journal - teachers & students edition

Dear Creative Schools Community,
We are thrilled to announce the launch of a brand-new resource: the Creative Schools Reflection Journal, created with and for our community of teachers, creative practitioners, and students. This journal has been a true collaboration, shaped with input from 2024 Creative Schools participants, and we are excited to trial it for the first time this year!
This resource comes in two editions:
  • The Teacher/Creative Practitioner Resource: A full "deck of cards" style journal for teachers, creative practitioners, and school leaders. It acts as a handbook, with detailed activities linked to the Creative Learning science underpinning each exercise.
  • The Student Journal: A paired-back version designed for young people to use and enjoy, offering space for simple reflections through words, drawings, or activities.

Whether you choose to print a journal for each student, or simply select and print individual pages to focus on specific skills, the Reflection Journal is designed to fit flexibly into your classroom practice.
At its heart, this journal supports the development of the language of creative thinking in your classroom—and helps students reflect on how they are growing as motivated, resilient, confident learners who value others and manage emotions thoughtfully.
Reflective practice is a core pillar of the Creative Schools approach, helping young people not only learn, but learn how they learn.
You’ll notice the Reflection Journal draws on the familiar tools of the Creative Schools program:
  • The Five Creative Habits of Learning: Imagination, Persistence, Inquisitiveness, Discipline, and Collaboration

  • The Wellbeing & Mindfulness Wheel

  • The Learning Engagement Wheel

The exercises in the journal bring these frameworks to life, offering practical, playful, and purposeful ways to deepen reflection and growth.
Teachers, creative practitioners, school leaders: this Reflection Journal teaching resource is for you. It is the adult companion to the student journal, giving you additional insights through colour-coded guidance on what each activity aims to cultivate. We encourage you to explore the journal, adapt it to your students’ journeys—and even have a go at the challenges yourselves!
This Reflection Journal has been proudly developed by FORM’s Creative Learning Team, the people who, for the past few years, have brought Creative Schools to 10% of Western Australia’s public schools.
We cannot wait to see how you bring this resource to life in your classrooms and studios.
Please let us know how you use it, what works best for you, and how we can continue to refine and improve it to best support your creative learning adventures. There is a word document in the folder with the journal so that you can add comments and feedback on the activities.
You can find both Teacher/Creative handbook and the Student version of the journal in the Resource section of the Google Drive here:

They include two warm-up toolkits and a Reflection Toolkit which shares ideas about how you can make the 5 Habits visible in your classroom: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/148UZMHbC6Syx9iXAoeEHC8ukfRpsAoIE?usp=sharing
Here’s to celebrating reflection, growth, and the art of learning creatively!
