What else should we add?

In pairs, your challenge is to create a 30 second news report/advert for a place on the map to persuade people to go there. Each group must choose a different place.
Why should people visit this place?
What is there to see?

What is the weather like?
How long would it take to get there from Perth?
You must both share the talking

Planning with the Teacher
(refer back to your original Term Plan document, discuss successes, explore challenges and make changes.)
|
Successes
The students' ability to work together and combine their ideas to create a warm up activity.
Student suggestion of working in groups of 3 collaborating with people you don’t normally work with
Student suggestion of mixing the groups so that they weren’t all boys or girls
Success and complete immersion in the warm up activity
Creating their persuasive video even though some were better than others, each group tried and the one student who felt it wasn’t working in his group, worked independently, conducting his own research and creating his own video
The amount of note taking and writing they did in their groups, even though that wasn’t the expectation
Challenges
|
Working with students
(what is emerging, what is engaging them/not, what’s making them curious.)
|
The growth in them as both individuals and also collaboratively from the start of the program is clearly visible. They are able to work together, in most cases, regardless of who they are partnered with. They are completing large amounts of writing whereas at the beginning of term 2, and even earlier this term, they would avoid it. They are communicating much more effectively with each other, pushing themselves and even when they don’t get it right, they will try again. Although, at times they might take a little longer to settle, they have improved greatly and generally appear to want to succeed. Today was a beautiful celebration of someone else’s presentation. The very last video about Tasmania was funny, engaging and had covered each of the points we had set out and was definitely the stand out amongst the rest. Rather than be deflated, the class clapped.
‘That made me want to go to Tasmania!’...student
